Below is a project that exemplifies the spirit of dei Popoli. What have you seen in your own public squares? How have you transformed them into true places for the people? Campiello dei Squelini, Venice

Poetry and installation by Lo stendiversomio.

Stendiversomio is a word invented by the poet, coming from the words for poetic verse (verso) and clothesline (stendino).

It suggests a random poetic feeling. The poet writes the verses, prints them on paper, and then hangs them or pastes them in public spaces such as bus stops, gasoline stations, on the street, etc.

A place for the people. Usually called a public space, belonging to everyone – available,
freely accessible, centrally located. Sometimes an empty, unassigned, leftover space people
can claim and inhabit, often temporarily. Such places may of course be designed, intended
for the purpose of public gathering, or often becoming intersections, urban crossings in people’s daily
paths from home to work, to school, to shop. The story of a town and its people are invariably
evident, revealed. The more time that is spent in such a place, by residents and visitors alike, the
more we discover the lifestyle and personality of the locality, in situ. A place of the people –“dei Popoli.”
